Verbal SMS consent

Procedure and staff script for obtaining permission to send appointment texts during telephone or in-person booking.

Last updated October 29, 2026
Appointment notifications only. Consent is optional. A telephone number or an imported client record alone is not permission to send SMS.

Program and consent method

BeautyLite is salon management software that delivers appointment notifications for participating establishments. The establishment identified to the client is the sender of its appointment communications; BeautyLite provides the delivery platform.

This verbal opt-in procedure is used during a telephone booking or an in-person conversation. Staff identify their establishment, read the disclosures below, and ask for an explicit yes or no before enabling appointment SMS. The program covers appointment confirmations, reminders, changes, and cancellations. It does not cover promotional campaigns.

Staff script

Staff state the actual establishment name wherever the script refers to “our establishment.” For example, Caprice Hair Studio staff introduce themselves as Caprice Hair Studio.

“You’re booking with our establishment, and we use BeautyLite to deliver appointment texts. May we send appointment confirmations, reminders, changes, and cancellations to the mobile number you provided?

Message frequency varies with your appointments. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. You can decline and still book or purchase services.

Our BeautyLite messaging privacy policy is at beautylite.com/privacy and the SMS terms are at beautylite.com/sms-terms. For messaging support, email support@beautylite.com.

Do you agree to receive these appointment text messages?”

Staff wait for the client’s explicit answer. Silence or simply supplying a phone number is not a yes.

After a yes, staff confirm: “Thank you. You have agreed to appointment texts from our establishment through BeautyLite. You can reply STOP at any time to stop them.”

Record the response before sending

For a yes, staff record the client’s permission in the establishment’s client record, including the mobile number, date and time, verbal consent method, staff member, and appointment-message scope. This may be recorded in a client note; this procedure does not imply that BeautyLite automatically captures or verifies verbal consent.

Enable the client’s SMS notification preference only after permission has been recorded. For a no or an unclear response, leave SMS off. Do not treat imported SMS preferences or an existing business relationship alone as proof that this verbal permission was obtained.

Declining and opting out

SMS consent is voluntary and is not a condition of a purchase or booking. Email consent is separate. Clients can reply STOP to the sending number to opt out, or ask the establishment to turn off SMS. Reply HELP for messaging assistance.

Staff must respect withdrawn permission. A client who opts out is not re-enrolled simply because they book another appointment. Any subsequent enrollment requires renewed permission and the sender’s supported opt-in process.
